With the generous support from Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, The Institute of Active Ageing (“IAA”) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has tailor-made an “English With Lineage: Intergenerational-ESL Programme” for students of schools under Project WeCan. Benefitting about 180 students from six schools over two years, the programme aims at enhancing students’ English language skills and promoting intergenerational understanding with the support of retirees who were trained in language teaching and communications by IAA.

On Saturday mornings, retirees would interact with secondary school students in English through some fun and meaningful activities. Students from The Yuen Yuen Institute MFBM Nei Ming Chan Lui Chung Tak Memorial College and Caritas Fanling Chan Chun Ha Secondary School joined the programme in September 2016 and February 2017 respectively. The programme is benefiting more schools in the coming year, including Catholic Ming Yuen Secondary School who joined in September 2017. The programme has so far received very positive feedback from the retirees and the students.
